A short guide to getting the most out of X Downloader, plus answers to the questions we hear most often.

Tip: Most issues come down to one of two things — the post is from a private/protected account, or the post does not actually contain a video. The app can only save videos from publicly accessible posts.

Quick start

  1. Open the post you want to save in any browser or in your timeline app.
  2. Use the share icon and choose Copy link.
  3. Open X Downloader. The pasteboard URL is detected automatically.
  4. Tap Fetch, then pick a quality and save to Photos.

Frequently asked questions

What links does the app support?

Public post URLs from x.com, twitter.com, and mobile.twitter.com. The URL must point to a specific status (i.e. contain /status/<number>). Profile pages, lists, search results, and shortened tracking links (e.g. t.co/...) are not supported — open them in a browser first to resolve them to a full post URL.

The app says it can't find a video. Why?

The most common reasons:

  • The post itself doesn't contain a video (only images, text, or a link).
  • The author's account is private/protected, so the post isn't publicly accessible.
  • The post has been deleted or is region-restricted.
  • You pasted a quoting post — try the original post that actually contains the video.
Downloads are slow or failing.

Try these in order:

  1. Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular and retry.
  2. Pick a lower quality option — high-bitrate variants can stall on weaker networks.
  3. Force-quit and relaunch the app to reset network state.
  4. If a single video keeps failing, the source media host may be temporarily unavailable; try again in a few minutes.
Where are my downloaded videos saved?

Saved videos are added to your Photos library, in the Recents album. The app needs the "Add to Photos" permission for this to work. If you previously denied it, you can re-enable it from Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → X Downloader.

Why am I asked for Photos access?

Only so the app can place the downloaded file in your Photos library. The app uses Apple's "Add Only" permission scope, which means it can add a video but cannot read, list, or modify any of your existing photos or videos. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Does the app work with private or protected accounts?

No. The app uses public metadata only and has no way to authenticate to any third-party platform. If an account is set to private/protected, its posts will not be accessible to the app and that is by design.

Does the app collect my data?

No. There are no accounts, no analytics SDKs, and no advertising trackers. The full details are in the Privacy Policy.

Can I download images, GIFs, or audio-only posts?

Currently the app focuses on video and GIF (animated) media. Static images and audio-only posts are not supported in the current release.

Can I download multiple videos at once?

Yes. You can start one download and queue another while the first one finishes. The progress and Pause / Resume controls are shown for each item in the download list.

I see "Photo Library access denied".

Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos, scroll to X Downloader, and choose Add Photos Only (recommended) or Full Access. Then return to the app and tap Save again.

Can I request a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple ID you used to buy the app.
